Brilliant, refreshingly original and a needed shot in the arm for the art world!
By Justin Farone
I have just returned from the first exhibit of the works of the artist ZARUM in The Netherlands where I witnessed the
birth of something special. I was told to expect something bold, mystical, and original in style. I was not disappointed
at all. In fact it exceed all my expectations. I can still see the images of his work clearly in my mind. They are original
and haunting. They jump out at you. They are watching you as much as you are viewing them. At each work I spent a considerable
amount of time as I was seeing so many things in the work. First impressions are quickly tossed aside as one begins to see
the depth and message in each work. Mostly though, they were for the most part fun. They made me feel good, happy, sad, excited,
erotic, angry, scared, curious, and as a women, very sexy. ZARUM is definitely fascinated with women in every aspect. His
work, All About Eve, is a study of the many facets of women. Remarkable. This is art of the highest caliber. Sure, one can
see ZARUM's art influences here and there, but for the most part it is pure and original.
ZARUM grew up in Canada but is strongly influenced by his distant Spanish heritage. In fact, he paints in a castle in
Spain. I asked him why in Spain? "I feel alive and can express myself with the same fire I feel from the flamenco or
the awesome landscape". Seems he is most creative when he is alone on the estate. I asked him if he wasn't frightened
being all alone in that huge and ancient castle all alone? "There is never a moment I am not busy creating so I never
notice that I am all alone there...beside I have the ghosts of the two sisters who lived there in last century to keep me
company. They get a kick when I sit at the piano and play a song for them in Spanish" I didn't know if he was serious
or not and his infectious smile gave nothing away.
I predict that his work will continue to spread throughout the art world fast, and as such it will be a wise investment
for those that bought 'early' before the storm.
